About Sydenham Markets

Sydenham Markets is a food market held at the Sydenham Underpass, 15 Sandyford Street, in Sydenham, Christchurch. It started in March 2026 and runs usually on the last Sunday of the month.

The underpass is an old industrial site under the Durham Street bridge that has become a small community hub, with its own permanent food tenants, a bar and regular music and arts events. On market days the food trucks and stalls set up under the bridge and inside the underpass, so the whole thing is covered.

That roof is the point. Most markets in Christchurch are outdoors, so a wet or windy Sunday either cancels them or empties them. We go ahead in any weather, which makes the market a reliable day out for families and a reliable day of trading for the vendors.

We work with a network of over a hundred local food vendors, and every market has a different lineup chosen for variety: food trucks, street food, desserts, bakeries and drinks, with covered seating and music through the afternoon. Entry is always free.

The market is run by a small local team. Follow @sydenhammarkets for dates and lineups, check the FAQ for parking and times, or apply to trade if you run a food truck or stall.
